AbracadaBar at Disney’s BoardWalk Is More Than a Place to Get a Cocktail

AbracadaBar is one of those small Walt Disney World lounges that is easy to walk past without realizing how much is going on inside.

Disney's AbracadaBar on the BoardWalk

Located along Disney’s BoardWalk between Trattoria al Forno and Flying Fish, the lounge is themed as the former gathering place of magicians, illusionists, and their assistants from the golden age of magic.

The drinks carry names such as Pepper’s Ghost, The Conjurita, Collin’s Double, Hoodunit’s Punch, and the Parlor Trick. But the real appeal is the combination of those creative cocktails with a room packed with old show posters, magic props, unusual mirrors, and small details that reward taking the time to look around.

I’ve stopped at AbracadaBar numerous times, both by myself and with Tracy, and it remains a fun place for a drink when we’re spending time around the BoardWalk.

Quick answer: AbracadaBar is worth visiting at least once for the atmosphere, not just the cocktails. Go inside so you can see the magician-themed details covering the room. If you’ve already experienced the interior or simply want to relax outside, the shaded tables directly in front can also be a very pleasant place for an afternoon drink.

Location Disney’s BoardWalk, between Trattoria al Forno and Flying Fish
Type Cocktail lounge
Hours 4:00 PM to midnight
Reservations No advance reservation required; seating is first-come, first-served
Food Small selection of bar snacks served from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Best Known For Creative cocktails and elaborate golden-age-of-magic theming
My Drink Pick Parlor Trick
Best For An evening BoardWalk drink, a pre- or post-dinner stop, or anyone who enjoys detailed Disney theming

Location

AbracadaBar is located along the waterfront promenade at Disney’s BoardWalk.

You’ll find it between Trattoria al Forno and Flying Fish, in the cluster of restaurants and entertainment venues on the Inn side of the BoardWalk.

That location makes AbracadaBar especially easy to work into an evening if you’re already eating at Flying Fish, Trattoria al Forno, or another restaurant in the EPCOT Resort Area.

It’s also an easy stop when walking between EPCOT’s International Gateway and Disney’s Hollywood Studios or one of the surrounding resorts.

You do not need to be staying at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn or BoardWalk Villas to visit AbracadaBar.

What Is AbracadaBar?

AbracadaBar is a Disney lounge built around the fictional history of a secret social club for magicians and illusionists.

According to the story Disney created for the lounge, performers once gathered here after their shows, showing off tricks to one another and creating cocktails at the bar.

Then the club mysteriously disappeared.

Now it has supposedly reappeared exactly as it was left.

That backstory gives Disney an excuse to fill the room with the remnants of those vanished entertainers.

You don’t have to know any of that before walking through the door. The lounge works perfectly well as an attractive BoardWalk bar.

But understanding the story makes all the things on the walls considerably more fun to explore.

The Atmosphere Is a Big Part of the Experience

Bar seating inside AbracadaBar at Disney's BoardWalk

AbracadaBar is not a large lounge. It has a cozy, intimate feel that works especially well with the old-fashioned magician theme.

There is seating directly at the bar, along with a moderate amount of comfortable seating arranged more like an antique living room than a modern cocktail lounge. You’ll find upholstered chairs, sofas, and small tables, along with high-top tables and ledges that provide additional places to sit or stand with a drink.

The relatively small room actually helps the atmosphere. Instead of feeling like a large restaurant bar with themed decorations added around it, AbracadaBar feels more like the private social club its fictional backstory describes.

And this is one place where I would not recommend simply walking in, ordering a drink, and staring at your phone.

Look around.

Cozy antique-style seating inside AbracadaBar

AbracadaBar is packed with magician posters, props, pictures, unusual mirrors, old advertisements, display cases, and little references connected to the fictional entertainers who supposedly used the club.

Disney describes the setting as a return to the golden age of magic, and the room has the darker woods, rich colors, and old-fashioned details to pull that off.

I’ve been here quite a few times, and there’s still plenty to look at while sitting with a drink.

That makes AbracadaBar different from a lounge where the atmosphere is essentially nice furniture surrounding a bar. Here, the room itself is part of what you’re visiting.

You Can Also Sit Outside

Outside seating at Disney's BoardWalk AbracadaBar

You don’t have to sit inside every time.

I’ve also spent afternoons at the shaded tables directly in front of AbracadaBar. These tables are serviced by the lounge, and a server comes outside to take your order.

Sitting outside obviously means giving up the elaborate magician theming, but you gain a relaxing BoardWalk atmosphere and a good place to sit with a drink while watching people move along the waterfront.

For a first visit, I’d still go inside.

Once you’ve experienced the interior, however, the outdoor tables are a nice alternative—especially during an afternoon when you want the BoardWalk atmosphere more than the lounge atmosphere.

AbracadaBar Cocktails

Cocktails are the main event.

An Oldfashioned outside at AbracadaBar

The current menu includes a mix of themed AbracadaBar creations and more familiar cocktails, with bourbon, rye, gin, tequila, vodka, rum, Scotch, and other spirits represented.

Some of the more distinctively named choices include:

  • Pepper’s Ghost
  • The Conjurita
  • Collin’s Double
  • Hoodunit’s Punch
  • Parlor Trick
  • The Vanderberry

You’ll also find drinks such as an Espresso Martini, Bourbon Mule, Negroni, Black Manhattan, Cosmopolitan, and Aperol Spritz.

Wine, beer, hard cider, and a broad spirits selection are also available.

There is currently one specialty nonalcoholic drink on the menu: the Magic Mirror.

My Pick: The Parlor Trick

I’m a bourbon drinker, so my favorite here is an easy choice.

The Parlor Trick is made with Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters.

It is essentially AbracadaBar’s take on a straightforward bourbon Old Fashioned-style cocktail, without trying to overwhelm the bourbon with a long list of ingredients.

That’s exactly why I like it.

STEVE SAYS: I’ve been to AbracadaBar numerous times, both solo and with Tracy. The room is fun because there is so much to look at, and the creatively named drinks fit the whole magician theme. As a bourbon drinker, the Parlor Trick is my favorite. If it’s your first visit, sit inside and explore the room. After you’ve done that, don’t overlook the shaded tables out front for a relaxing afternoon drink on the BoardWalk.

Can You Eat at AbracadaBar?

Yes, but AbracadaBar is a lounge with snacks rather than a restaurant where I would plan a complete meal.

Disney currently serves its bar-snack menu from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The current selections are:

  • Bánh Mì Sliders
  • Lump Crab Fries
  • Tasting of Artisan Cheeses

The menu can certainly take the edge off if you’re having drinks, but I wouldn’t choose AbracadaBar because you’re looking for dinner.

That’s particularly important on the BoardWalk, where full restaurants including Flying Fish and Trattoria al Forno are only steps away.

Think of the food as supporting the lounge experience rather than defining it.

Do You Need Reservations for AbracadaBar?

No.

AbracadaBar operates as a lounge and does not require or accept Advance Dining Reservations. Seating is first-come, first-served.

That flexibility is one of its advantages.

You can decide that evening that you’d like a drink, stop by before dinner, or wander in while exploring the BoardWalk without having planned another dining reservation 60 days earlier.

Of course, a no-reservation lounge can fill up when the BoardWalk is busy. If there isn’t a table immediately available, check with the Cast Members at the entrance or bar.

AbracadaBar Has a Sweet History

The magician-themed lounge is relatively new by Walt Disney World standards, but this little storefront has been part of Disney’s BoardWalk since the resort opened.

Before AbracadaBar, this was Seashore Sweets.

Before it became AbracadaBar, it was called Seashore Sweets

Seashore Sweets opened on July 1, 1996, the same day Disney’s BoardWalk opened. It was an old-fashioned Atlantic shore-style candy shop selling sweets and ice cream.

Disney gave the store its own fictional owners: the Sweet Sisters.

The shop fit the BoardWalk’s turn-of-the-century Atlantic City and Jersey Shore inspiration, with beauty-pageant theming that played off Atlantic City’s long association with the Miss America competition.

Its location may be especially interesting to longtime BoardWalk visitors.

When the resort opened, Seashore Sweets sat between Spoodles and Flying Fish Café. Spoodles eventually closed in 2009 and became Kouzzina by Cat Cora. Kouzzina later closed in 2014 and was replaced by today’s Trattoria al Forno.

Through all those restaurant changes, the little candy shop between them and Flying Fish remained Seashore Sweets.

That finally changed in 2016.

Seashore Sweets closed on January 31, 2016. Disney was also undertaking a major refurbishment of neighboring Flying Fish, and the former candy-shop space was transformed into an entirely different kind of BoardWalk destination.

AbracadaBar opened on July 23, 2016.

There’s even a small nod to the old candy shop hidden within AbracadaBar’s theming. Early coverage of the new lounge identified a newspaper prop containing a small story about two sisters advancing in a beauty pageant—a reference back to the Sweet Sisters and Seashore Sweets.

So although the cocktails and magician story arrived in 2016, the space itself goes all the way back to opening day at Disney’s BoardWalk.

When Does AbracadaBar Make the Most Sense?

AbracadaBar exterior at night on Disney's BoardWalk

I think AbracadaBar works particularly well when it fits naturally into something else you’re already doing in the EPCOT Resort Area.

It’s an easy choice before a Flying Fish or Trattoria al Forno dinner, after dinner when you’re not ready to head back to the room, or as part of an evening spent exploring the BoardWalk.

It can also work as a break from EPCOT.

If you’re in World Showcase, you can leave through International Gateway, walk over to the BoardWalk, have a drink, and return to EPCOT afterward if your plans allow.

I would be less inclined to make a major cross-property trip solely for one cocktail unless you’re especially interested in Disney lounges or detailed theming.

But if your vacation already puts you anywhere around EPCOT, the BoardWalk, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan, Dolphin, or Hollywood Studios, AbracadaBar is an easy experience to add without restructuring your day.

Bottom Line

Antique-style lounge seating inside AbracadaBar

AbracadaBar succeeds because the drinks and the room support each other.

You can certainly stop in simply because you want a cocktail. But on a first visit, spend some time looking at the walls, props, mirrors, advertisements, and other details. The magician story gives the lounge considerably more personality than its small size suggests.

I’ve returned numerous times, which probably says more about how I feel about it than any rating could.

For me, the Parlor Trick, the atmosphere, and an evening on Disney’s BoardWalk make a very good combination.

And once you’ve experienced the magic inside, don’t forget that sometimes a shaded table outside with a drink and a view of the BoardWalk is exactly what you need.
