Kabuki Cafe Is an Easy-to-Miss Stop in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion

Kabuki Cafe is a small walk-up location along the World Showcase promenade in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion.

It is best known for kakigōri, Japanese shaved ice topped with flavored syrup, but the menu is more extensive than many guests probably realize. You can also get sake slushies, sushi, Japanese beer, sake, plum wine, bottled drinks, and water.

I’ve walked past Kabuki Cafe countless times over the years and, to be honest, don’t pay much attention to it unless I’m looking for something specific. We’ve stopped for kakigōri in the past, I used to pick up Kirin here when I was a bigger beer drinker, and these days I’m just as likely to stop for bottled water.

That’s really Kabuki Cafe’s strength.

It isn’t a place you need to build your day around. It’s a convenient little stop when you want a cold snack or drink while making your way around World Showcase.

Quick answer: On a hot EPCOT afternoon, kakigōri is the reason I’d stop. We like the Blue Hawaii topped with sweet milk. It’s inexpensive by Walt Disney World standards, and there’s enough to share if you’re sampling other snacks around World Showcase.

Location Japan Pavilion along the World Showcase promenade, beside the five-story pagoda
Best Known For Kakigōri Japanese shaved ice
Kakigōri Prices $6.50 single flavor, $7 two flavors, $7.50 Rainbow
Other Food Sushi rolls and sushi combinations
Alcoholic Drinks Sake slushies, Japanese beer, plum wine, and sake
Seating No dedicated seating; limited nearby options
Best For A quick cold snack or Japanese drink while touring World Showcase

Location

📍 EPCOT | World Showcase | Japan

Kabuki Cafe sits directly along the World Showcase promenade on the pavilion side of the walkway.

It’s immediately beside the large five-story Japanese pagoda as you head from the Japan Pavilion toward The American Adventure.

The building itself is tiny: essentially a small freestanding kiosk with one very wide service opening. A display case divides the opening into left and right service areas, and you can watch Cast Members preparing kakigōri behind the counter.

You don’t need to walk farther into the Japan Pavilion to find it, which makes Kabuki Cafe particularly convenient when you’re simply continuing your trip around World Showcase.

Kakigōri Is the Main Reason to Stop

Kakigōri is Japanese shaved ice, and Kabuki Cafe serves it with flavored syrups imported from Japan.

The current flavor choices are:

  • Lemon
  • Blue Hawaii
  • Melon
  • Strawberry
  • Kyoho Grape

You can choose a single flavor for $6.50, two flavors for $7, or a Rainbow version for $7.50.

Additional toppings include Sweet Milk, Coconut Crème, Strawberry Crème, and Mandarin Orange. One topping costs $2, two cost $3, and three cost $4.

Our choice is Blue Hawaii with sweet milk.

The sweet milk adds a creamy richness to the flavored ice and makes the whole thing feel a little more substantial than a simple frozen treat.

Kakigōri is also one of the better snack values in World Showcase. The base prices are relatively low by Walt Disney World standards, and the serving is large enough that two people can share one if you’re planning to sample other food around EPCOT.

Adults Have Their Own Frozen Options

Kabuki Cafe also offers several alcoholic frozen drinks.

The current Sake Slushie choices include:

  • Blood Orange
  • Coconut Pineapple
  • Blackberry

Each is currently $13. The menu also lists Violet Sake at $14.

If you’re looking for something cold while walking World Showcase but want an adult drink rather than traditional kakigōri, these make Kabuki Cafe a useful alternative to the more obvious beer and cocktail stops around EPCOT.

Kabuki Cafe Also Serves Sushi

This is the part of Kabuki Cafe’s menu that I had almost completely overlooked.

I’ve passed this location for years and didn’t really think of it as somewhere to get food beyond shaved ice. Looking back through my own photos, though, I can see sushi listed on a menu as far back as 2015.

The current menu includes:

  • A5 Wagyu Nigiri Combo
  • California Roll
  • Spicy Roll
  • Tokyo Sushi Combo
  • Vegetable Roll

I haven’t personally tried the sushi here, so I’m not going to tell you which one is best.

If I were ordering, the California Roll would probably be my first choice.

The sushi does make Kabuki Cafe more useful than I had given it credit for. You could easily turn a stop for shaved ice or a drink into a light lunch or snack without walking farther into the pavilion.

Beer, Sake, and Other Drinks

Kabuki Cafe has long been an easy place to pick up a Japanese beer while walking World Showcase.

The current beer selection includes Kirin Ichiban, Sapporo Premium, Kirin Frozen, and Kirin Light.

I used to stop here for Kirin fairly regularly when I drank more beer than I do today.

You can also find Plum Wine, Nigori Sake, Cold Sake, and Hot Sake.

For something simpler, the kiosk sells bottled water, assorted bottled beverages, and POWERADE.

Lines Are Usually Short

One advantage of Kabuki Cafe is that I’ve rarely encountered much of a wait.

In my experience, there are normally no more than one or two guests ahead of you.

That makes it an easy impulse stop. You can see the kiosk from the promenade, decide something cold sounds good, and be back on your way around World Showcase without committing much time.

Where Can You Sit?

Kabuki Cafe does not have its own seating area.

The closest improvised option is the low stone wall surrounding the base of the nearby pagoda. The end nearest Kabuki Cafe is low enough that guests sometimes sit there while finishing a drink or snack.

For actual tables and chairs, walk between the Kabuki Cafe and the pagoda and up the stairs toward Katsura Grill. Its outdoor seating area provides a much better place to sit if you want to slow down and enjoy your food rather than continue walking.

If you’re simply sharing a kakigōri while touring World Showcase, however, you may not need a table at all.

When Is Kabuki Cafe Most Useful?

For me, Kabuki Cafe makes the most sense on a hot afternoon while touring World Showcase.

Kakigōri is cold, refreshing, relatively inexpensive, and easy to share. You don’t need a reservation, and you normally don’t need to spend much time waiting.

It’s also useful if you want to try a little Japanese food or drink without making a larger detour into the pavilion.

There are certainly more substantial Japanese dining experiences elsewhere in the pavilion, but that’s not really Kabuki Cafe’s job.

Its strength is convenience.

Steve Says

If you don’t plan to explore farther into the Japan Pavilion, Kabuki Cafe is an easy way to sample a little Japanese food or drink without leaving the World Showcase promenade.

On a hot day, I’d go with the Blue Hawaii kakigōri and add sweet milk. It’s cold, inexpensive enough by Disney standards, and large enough to share.

Bottom Line

Kabuki Cafe is exactly the kind of World Showcase location that’s easy to walk past for years without realizing everything it offers.

The little kiosk beside the Japan Pavilion pagoda serves much more than shaved ice, including sushi, sake slushies, Japanese beer, sake, wine, and bottled drinks.

But kakigōri is still the reason I’d recommend stopping.

On a hot EPCOT afternoon, a Blue Hawaii kakigōri with sweet milk is a simple, refreshing break from walking World Showcase. The line is normally short, the price is reasonable, and the serving is large enough to share.

You don’t need to plan around Kabuki Cafe.

Just remember it’s there when something cold sounds really good.
