Public Health Service and National Oceanic and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps Now Eligible for the Disney Armed Forces Salute

Disney Now Honors PHS and NOAA Officers with Military Discount Tickets

Last week Disney announced on its Disney World and Disneyland websites that it was extending the Disney Armed Forces Salute benefits to Public Health Service and  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officers. These Uniformed Services will now receive the same theme park admission prices Disney has long provided to members of the five military services, as well as the same Resort room discounts. This new eligibility started on 3 January 2016.

Effective as of January 3, 2016, Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by active or retired members of the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS) and the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Spouses of PHS and NOAA Members also qualify if they are able to present valid and active U.S. Military IDs in the absence of active PHS or NOAA Personnel.”

Disney Theme Park Tickets

The Disney Armed Forces Salute offers special military tickets. These tickets are for a specified number of days and come in several varieties.

Qualified individuals may purchase up to a maximum of 6 theme park tickets during the 2016 Salute offer period.

These tickets are non-refundable.

The tickets are valid for the entire length of the offer period, 3 January through 19 December 2016.

Days on the tickets do not need to be used consecutively. Any days left on the tickets will expire at the end of the offer period.

Tickets purchased at Base Ticket Offices (except Shades of Green) and not direct from Disney or Shades of Green must be activated prior to first use in person by the military member or spouse.

Once the tickets are activated the party can split up. For example some go to one park and some to another, or even use the tickets on different days. The Military ID is checked only upon ticket activation.

Tickets can be obtained at any Defense Department or Military Service Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) ticket office on a military installation, Shades of Green’s Ticket Office, or directly from Disney’s Ticket Windows (Tax added at WDW).

Disney Resort Rooms

The Disney Armed Forces Salute offers Disney resort rooms at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland at a great discount.

Qualified individuals may book up to a maximum of 3* rooms at Walt Disney World Resort and 2 rooms at the Disneyland Resort at a time during the period of the Disney Armed Forces Salute. All rooms must be in the same resort and check in on the same day.

The discount offered varies based upon resort category from 30 to 40% off.

This discount may be used as many times as you’d like during the offer period and may be used at both WDW and Disneyland.

Note: PHS and NOAA Officers should be aware that Disney has very bad internal communication and training regarding military discounts! It is rare for a military member to get correct information from Disney’s external communications outlets. While this new benefit is in its infancy stages you should be prepared for Disney cast members to not know about this change and tell you that you are not eligible (via phone, online chat, email, and in person). If this occurs, politely escalate your issue up the Disney chain of command (Lead, Supervisor, Manager). The Commissioned Officers Association of the USPHS Recommends that you print Disney World’s official website and bring it with you, just in case.

One Issue

Disneyland in California has not yet added PHS and NOAA Officer’s eligibility to their website. It should be noted that Walt Disney World and Disneyland have in the past had differing policies regarding and implementations of the Disney Armed Forces Salute.

I’m attempting to clarify with Disney.

Long Overdue

This change is long overdue. PHS and NOAA Officers have always been eligible for all the other MWR and Ticket Office benefits including stays at Shades of Green on Walt Disney World property that the military services receive.

And The Disney Cruise Line proudly displays a plaque on its ships that they work closely with the PHS to reduce the chance of transmitted illnesses.
