What’s the Right Military Discounted Disney Ticket for me?
I am often asked some version of this question.
A Very Complex Issue
“I’d like to go to Disney World or Disneyland for 5 days, what’s the cheapest ticket to buy?”
This question is typical of those that I receive, and while this is a seemingly simple question, there are way too many variables to give a simple answer!
The Variables, which were left out of the question above that affect the answer are:
- Number of adults in the party (ages 10+)
- Number of children in the party (ages 3-9)
- Dates of the Trip
- Desire to Park-Hop
- Desire for Park Hopper Plus Option (at WDW)
- Have any Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets been used previously during the current offer period?
When answering a question like this, I have to shotgun lots of information, which might or might not apply. And it takes a lot of my time.
Deciding the right ticket for your party is a very complex decision, one which will be influenced heavily by your vacation decisions and touring preferences.
The right Military Ticket option for one family might not be the right option for another!”
This is going to be a long, complex post, in which I’ll try to lay things out in a logical manner with the intention of guiding you through your decision-making process.
Disney Military Ticket Types
Many people are surprised to find out that there are actually two totally different types of military-discounted Disney tickets!
These ticket types are
- Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets
- Walt Disney World Military Theme Park Tickets
- Regular Military Discounted Disneyland Tickets
These different ticket types have price increases on different schedules
NEW for 2026 (WDW): Disney Celebrates America Military Salute – All-Year Ticket
Brand-new for 2026 at Walt Disney World: an all-year access ticket for eligible U.S. military that works like a low-cost annual pass.
Facts:
- Valid dates: January 1, 2026, through December 18, 2026 (subject to blockouts noted below).
- Blockout dates (2026): March 29 – April 11, 2026, and November 22 – 28, 2026.
- Theme park reservations are required to visit.
- Intended for eligible service members and families; see the official offer for full eligibility and purchase locations.
When might this be the best value? If you plan multiple trips in 2026 or a longer stay (e.g., 7+ total park days across the year) and your visits avoid the blockouts, this all-year option can beat piecing together multiple multi-day tickets. If you’re doing a short, single trip, compare carefully vs. 4–, 5–, or 6–day Salute tickets below.
Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets
These are special, highly discounted tickets that are offered for a specific time period and have exclusion dates. They are often, but not always the right choice.

These are the slightly discounted tickets that have always been offered to the military community by Disney through Base Ticket Offices.
Facts:

Disney’s Ticket Pricing
The first few days of tickets for a Disney vacation cost you the most money!
Disney heavily front-loads the price on their multi-day tickets. Your first day costs the most money, followed decreasingly by the second through fourth days. After that extra days cost much less to add.
This front-loading of cost makes combining multiple tickets cost-prohibitive in most cases.
This is because when you buy 2 tickets, you are paying for the expensive days twice. Only on very limited, mid-length vacations is it cost-effective to combine a Regular Military ticket with a Disney Armed Forces Salute ticket.
Determining Your Requirement
So, now to the process of making your decision…
Timeframe – Does your trip fall within the Disney Armed Forces Salute timeframe?
Walt Disney World
- All 2025 WDW Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets must be used by 19 December 2025
- All 2026 WDW Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets must be used by 18 December 2026
- NEW 2026 WDW “Disney Celebrates America Military Salute” All-Year Ticket: valid for visits January 1, 2026 – December 18, 2026 (see blockouts below)
Disneyland Resort
- All 2025 DLR Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets must be used by 27 December 2025
- All 2026 DLR Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets are valid January 1, 2026 – December 18, 2026
Are your dates within Blockout Dates?
Walt Disney World:
- April 13 through April 26, 2025
- November 23 through November 29, 2025
- March 29 through April 11, 2026
- November 22 through November 28, 2026
Disneyland
- None (2025)
- For 2026 offers, blockouts apply: March 29 – April 11, 2026, and November 22 – 28, 2026 (see 2026 announcement)
Eligibility – How many Salute tickets are you eligible for?
Walt Disney World
And up to 6, 2025 Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets may be purchased through 16 December 2025.
Disneyland
Up to 6, 2025 Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets may be purchased through 23 December 2025.
Note that there is an exception to this 6-ticket rule for large families.
Length of vacation – How many park days?
How many days do you want to spend in the Disney Theme Parks?
What type of touring do you want?
Do you want to do one park per day, park-hop, go to the Water Parks or park-hop and water parks? Do you need to park-hop or go to the water parks for your whole vacation?
Where are you staying?
It matters at WDW for Early Entry, Extended Park Hours, and Lightning Lane Attraction Selections.
Are you at a resort eligible for Early Entry? (Disney Resorts, Shades of Green, Swan & Dolphin, or the Disney Springs Resort Hotels).
Are you at a Disney Deluxe or Deluxe Villa Resort? You’ll be eligible for Extended Park Hours.
Those staying at Disney Resorts are eligible to purchase Individual Attraction Selections at 7 a.m. the day of their visit, while others will have to wait until the park opens.
Do You Want to Park Hop?
One way to economize and make your ticket stretch is to get a ticket with the Park Hopper Plus Option and use the Plus visits to fill non-park days on your vacation. A 4-day ticket with Park Hopper Plus Option can keep you busy for up to 8 days!
Once you’ve answered these questions, you can begin to price your tickets.

General Guidelines
Below are some general guidelines on what your ticket selection might be.
But I encourage you to run the numbers yourself for every ticket combo you can think of to be sure for your specific circumstance.
Walt Disney World
When deciding what would be the right tickets based on price, you are going to want to figure out the cost of all possible combinations of every type of ticket. Take into account how you want to tour: Park hopping every day, or just some days; Plus options for all, some, or no days.
These are the ticket types and combos thereof that you’ll need to compare:
2025 Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets
- 4-day Park Hopper Tickets
- 4-day Park Hopper Plus Tickets
- 5-day Park Hopper Tickets
- 5-day Park Hopper Plus Tickets
- 6-day Park Hopper Tickets
- 6-day Park Hopper Plus Tickets
2026 WDW Ticket Options (compare all three):
- Disney Celebrates America Military Salute – All-Year Ticket (valid 1/1/26–12/18/26; blockouts 3/29–4/11 & 11/22–11/28)
- 2026 Disney Armed Forces Salute (4-, 5-, 6-Day Park Hopper or Park Hopper Plus; valid through 12/18/26)
- Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way (1–10 day Base/Hopper/Plus)
Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets
- 1 – 10-day Base Tickets (only one park per day)
- 1 – 10-day Park Hopper Tickets
- 1 – 10-day Park Hopper Plus Tickets
Things to keep in mind when comparing cost (updated for 2026):
- Try every option that you can think of.
- Everyone in the party might not use the same type of tickets to come up with the cheapest cost.
- Some of your park days could be non-hopping to save.
- Children’s Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets are cheaper; if just someone in your party is using these, then it should be the kids.
- New 2026 angle: If your 2026 plans include multiple trips or 7+ total park days outside blockouts, the all-year ticket can out-value stacking multi-day Salute tickets.
- For a single 3–6 day trip, Salute multi-day tickets often remain the best value; still price Regular Military for 6–10 days.
For example, below we have compared using Disney Armed Forces Salute Hopper Tickets to Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Hopper Tickets, and a combination of the two.
1 Park Day – The one-day Regular Military Discounted, Magic Your Way Ticket is always the right choice.
2 Park Days – The two-day Regular Military Discounted, Magic Your Way Ticket is currently the right choice.
3 and 4 Park Days – One 4-day Disney Armed Forces Salute Ticket per person is always the right choice. Even though there are 3-day regular tickets, the Salute ticket is cheaper and remains valid through the end of the offer (in case you return).
5 Park Days – One 5-day Disney Armed Forces Salute Ticket per person is always the right choice.
6 to 10 Park Days – For days 6 to 10, the Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets are cheaper than doing ticket combos.
In years past, it used to be cost-effective to use multiple Salute tickets per person, but with changes to the various prices over the years, it is no longer recommended for a single long trip, as the 6-day to 10-day Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets are cheaper than 2 Salute tickets. The only reason to use multiple Salute tickets for a single person is for multiple separate trips during the offer period.
Another old option was mixing Salute tickets with Regular Military tickets. This was only effective for 6 days, but with current prices, it is not recommended.“
Important note when mixing tickets: When using Magic Bands for park entry, the last ticket linked to each person in My Disney Experience will be the first ticket automatically used for entry by the system. If you will be using your tickets in a different order, i.e. for a non-hopping day in the middle, you have 2 options. You can go to guest relations prior to entering the park to coordinate which ticket you want to use that day, or use the physical ticket versus your Magic Band for entry.
Disneyland
At Disneyland there are just the Base and Park Hopper tickets.
1 Park Day – The one-day Regular Military Discounted, Theme Park Ticket is always the right choice.
2 through 3 Park Days – One 3-day Disney Armed Forces Salute Ticket per person is always the right choice. Even though there are 2-day regular tickets, the Salute ticket is cheaper and remains valid through the end of the offer (in case you return).
4 Park Days – One 4-day Disney Armed Forces Salute Ticket per person is always the right choice.
For 5 to 8 park days, you’ll be comparing:
Disneyland Armed Forces Salute Tickets
- 3-day Park Hopper Tickets
- 3-day Park Hopper Tickets with Lightning Lane Multi Pass
- 4-day Park Hopper Tickets
- 4-day Park Hopper Tickets with Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Disneyland Regular Military Discounted Tickets
- 1 – 5 day Base Tickets (only one park per day)
- 1 – 5 day Hopper Tickets
Read about Lightning Lane Single, Multi, and the new Premier
What to compare for 5-8 days (do your own math):
Try every option that you can think of:
- Everyone in the party might not use the same type of tickets to come up with the cheapest cost!
- Some of your park days could be non-hopping to save.
- Children’s Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets are cheaper, if just someone in your party is using these, then it should be the kids.
- Back-to-back use of Disney Armed Forces Salute tickets for all or some of your party, depending on how many people you have. Mix 3 and 4 day for 9 days.
- Combining Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets with regular tickets sometimes this works out as the cheapest route. Try both lengths of Salute ticket and all types of regular military ticket: Base, Hopper, or both Options, depending on your touring desires.
- Regular Military Discounted Tickets for the full-length
Do Your Homework
As you can see, it isn’t as straightforward as you might think!
The important points for you to remember are:
- Decide how you’d like to tour and how many park/water park days you’ll need
- Come up with every possible combo of tickets that you can imagine
- Check the prices and do the math
FAQ: What’s the Right Military Discounted Disney Ticket for Me?
What new 2026 ticket should I know about at WDW?
The Disney Celebrates America Military Salute – All-Year Ticket offers eligible guests yearlong park access in 2026, valid Jan 1–Dec 18, 2026, with blockouts Mar 29–Apr 11 and Nov 22–28, 2026. Theme park reservations are required.
What military ticket types should I know about overall?
There are three: Disney Armed Forces Salute (temporary promo, deep discount), Walt Disney World Military Theme Park Tickets (permanent, slight discount), and Regular Military Discounted Disneyland Tickets (slight discount).
Why is this decision so tricky?
Price and fit depend on many variables: party makeup (adults 10+, children 3–9), trip dates, blockout dates, number of park days, park hopping, Park Hopper Plus (WDW), prior Salute usage, and where you’re staying (benefits like Early Entry/Extended Evening Hours and day-of purchase windows for certain Lightning Lane options).
When do 2025 Salute tickets have to be used by?
WDW: Use by December 19, 2025. DLR: Use by December 27, 2025.
What about 2026 use-by dates?
Both resorts’ 2026 Salute tickets are valid for use through December 18, 2026 (park reservations required where applicable). WDW also offers the 2026 all-year ticket with the same validity window and blockouts.
Are there 2025 Salute blockout dates?
WDW: April 13–26, 2025 and November 23–29, 2025. DLR: None listed in this page’s copy.
Are there 2026 blockout dates?
Yes. March 29–April 11, 2026 and November 22–28, 2026 apply to 2026 offers; plan around them.
How many Salute tickets can I buy?
Up to six per eligible member per offer period (with a large-family exception noted in your post). Purchase-through dates in this copy: WDW through Dec 16, 2025; DLR through Dec 23, 2025 for the 2025 offer.
What sets WDW Military Theme Park Tickets apart from public tickets?
They’re nearly identical to public 1–10 day WDW tickets (adult/child pricing), but slightly discounted, date-based, expire 4–14 days after first use depending on length, and are sold at Base Ticket Offices, Shades of Green, and Orlando ITT.
How are Regular Military Discounted Disneyland tickets different from public tickets?
Slightly discounted and not date-based (good any day; note single-day Christmas time requires a higher-priced version). They expire 13 days after first use, are sold at Base Ticket Offices, and come as Base or Park Hopper (with variants including Lightning Lane Multi Pass).
Is mixing ticket types smart?
Usually no for one longer WDW trip because Disney frontloads multi-day pricing (you pay the expensive “Day 1” twice). Historically some mixes worked; your guidance says current pricing favors a single set (see rules below).
What are your general WDW price rules of thumb?
1 day: Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way is always right.
2 days: Regular MYW 2-day is right.
3–4 days: One 4-day Salute per person is always right.
5 days: One 5-day Salute per person is always right.
6–10 days: Regular MYW (full length) beats combos. In 2026, compare against the all-year ticket if you’ll visit multiple times outside blockouts.
What are your general Disneyland rules of thumb?
1 day: Regular Military Discounted DLR ticket is always right.
2–3 days: One 3-day Salute per person is always right.
4 days: One 4-day Salute per person is always right.
5–8 days: Compare 3/4-day Salute (with/without Lightning Lane Multi Pass) vs 1–5 day Base/Hopper regular tickets; try mixes, non-hopping days, and putting kids on cheaper regular tickets if it lowers total cost.
Any tech tips if I’m mixing tickets in My Disney Experience?
MDE uses the last-linked ticket first at tapstiles. If you need a different order (e.g., a non-hopping day in the middle), visit Guest Relations before entry to set which ticket to use, or use the physical ticket instead of your MagicBand for that entry.
Does any ticket include Lightning Lane?
No. Purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass per resort rules; where you stay can affect when you can buy certain line-skipping options at WDW.
How-To: Choose the Right Military Discounted Disney Ticket (Step-by-Step)
- Check timing against Salute rules. Ensure your dates fall within the 2025 or 2026 Salute offer windows and outside WDW blockouts (Apr 13–26 and Nov 23–29, 2025; Mar 29–Apr 11 and Nov 22–28, 2026).
- Confirm eligibility & limits. Verify eligibility and note the six-ticket cap per offer period (with large-family exception as noted in your post).
- Set park days & touring style. Decide total park days, whether you’ll park-hop, and if you want Park Hopper Plus (WDW) for water parks/activities.
- If you’re traveling in 2026, add the all-year WDW option. If you’ll visit multiple times or for 7+ total days outside blockouts, price the all-year 2026 ticket against Salute multi-day and Regular Military tickets.
- Apply quick rules of thumb. WDW: 1 day → Regular MYW; 2 → Regular MYW; 3–4 → 4-day Salute; 5 → 5-day Salute; 6–10 → Regular MYW (and in 2026, compare to all-year). DLR: 1 day → Regular; 2–3 → 3-day Salute; 4 → 4-day Salute; 5–8 → compare mixes.
- Price every viable combo. Test all-Salute, all-Regular, selective non-hopping days, kids on cheaper Regular where it helps, and (DLR 5–8) back-to-back Salute or Salute+Regular mixes. Avoid paying the “Day 1” premium twice unless the math wins.
- Factor resort benefits. If staying at Disney Resorts, Shades of Green, Swan & Dolphin, or Disney Springs Hotels, consider Early Entry/Extended Evening Hours and day-of purchase timing for certain line-skipping options.
- Plan logistics in MDE. Link tickets promptly. If mixing, coordinate which ticket taps first (Guest Relations or use the physical ticket).

Hi Steve,
This is all great info. I am wanting to schedule a trip to arrive at Disney on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day this year (12/21) Are there any discounted military tickets that can be used during that time? My husband was previously on active duty, is currently in the reserves on active orders (if any of that matters or helps.)
thank you so much for any guidance you can offer.
Hi Victoria,
It’s the being a current Reserve member that counts. His and your IDs make you both eligible and are are used to obtain all Disney discounts.
Disney offers almost no discounts at Christmas time, but there are the Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets which are slightly discounted tickets that are always good.
There is a new wrinkle in their pricing though this year. Disney has mead the Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way Tickets at the normal price not valid at Christmas and added a higher priced version.
See https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/military-discount-theme-park-tickets/regular-military-discounted-magic-your-way-tickets/
Wow! You have done an enormous amount of work and research. I find Disney a bit overwhelming and really appreciate you breaking it down for me.
Thanks so much Liz!
I just love doing this for our community. Glad to be of service.
I am having a very hard time finding out where do I go exactly for a 100% total and permanently disabled vet?
Hi Michael,
Sorry, I don’t know what you mean, “…where do I go…”. For what?
Thanks so much for all your hard work. I also am overwhelmed by all the decisions. We are local retired military . So it comes down to do I want a Pixie which I have been getting or the military. My husband only goes a few days – decisions, decisions. Love reading your helpful tips.
Thanks Tina!
One option would be the Pixie for you and the Disney Celebrates America Military Salute Ticket for him for some savings.
