Journey into Imagination with Figment is a captivating attraction that combines the classic EPCOT character, Figment, with dorky fun that you can’t help but love.

Located in the Imagination Pavilion, Figment, a mischievous purple dragon who embodies the power of imagination will show you what happens with “one little spark”.  As you embark on this sensory journey, prepare to smile with good dorky fun, for here, in the company of Figment, imagination truly comes alive.

History of Figment

Journey into Imagination with Figment has a rich history that dates back to its original opening in March 1983. The initial version of the ride, known as “Journey into Imagination,” was a collaboration between Disney Imagineers and the beloved character Figment, who was introduced as the mischievous guide into the world of imagination.

Over the years, the attraction underwent several changes and iterations. The first major update occurred in 1999 when the ride was reimagined as “Journey into YOUR Imagination.” However, this version received mixed reviews from fans who missed the presence of Figment and the original charm. Responding to the feedback, Disney revised the attraction once again in 2002, bringing back Figment and restoring its original name as “Journey into Imagination with Figment.” This current version maintains the spirit of the original while incorporating new elements and technologies to enhance the guest experience.

Figment: The Cult Icon

Disney learned after the first reimagining of the attraction that for some unexplained reason, Disney guests just love Figment. We get it. He’s adorable!

While Journey into Imagination with Figment never typically has a wait, and is usually a walk on attraction, when Imagineers make changes to Figment, guests will flock to see! In 2021 Imagineers gave Figment a little Christmas sweater and people waited for over an hour just to see it!

The Ride

The ride vehicle in Journey into Imagination with Figment offers a whimsical and comfortable way to explore the wonders of imagination. Guests board colorful, open-air vehicles resembling oversized train cars. Each car features two rows of seating, allowing for multiple passengers to embark on the adventure together.

The vehicles are designed to provide an unobstructed view of the imaginative scenes and vibrant sets that unfold throughout the attraction. With their gentle and smooth movement, the ride vehicles glide along the track, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable experience for guests of all ages. Whether you’re a first-time explorer or a returning adventurer, the ride vehicle in Journey into Imagination with Figment sets the stage for a delightful journey into the depths of creativity and inspiration.

The Queue

The queue for Journey into Imagination with Figment is an imaginative and vibrant space that sets the stage for the upcoming adventure. However, this attraction often operates with little to no actual wait time, making the queue a moot point for many guests.

Lightning Lanes

Journey into Imagination with Figment is not a good use of a Lightning Lane Multi Pass because the wait time is so low that typically it will take you longer to find and book the Lightning Lane than the time you will spend in the standby queue. Unless of course, they give Figment another holiday overlay!

Height Requirement

There is no height requirement for Journey into Imagination with Figment, making it a fun ride for all ages!

Rider Swap

Rider Swap is not available for this attraction. However, with its slow pace and whimsical theme, it’s a great option for families to enjoy together.

Accessibility

Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs must transfer to the ride vehicle to experience Journey into Imagination with Figment. The queue is accessible, and Cast Members are available to assist with boarding if needed.

The What-If Labs After the Attraction

Upon exiting Journey into Imagination with Figment, guests are greeted by the lively and interactive ImageWorks – The What-If Labs play area. This whimsical space invites visitors of all ages to unleash their creativity and explore the possibilities of imagination. The What-If Labs serve as an extension of the attraction, providing an opportunity for hands-on engagement and interactive experiences.

Within the ImageWorks – The What-If Labs play area, guests will discover an array of captivating exhibits that spark their imagination and encourage interactive exploration. One of the highlights is the Figment Melody Maker, where visitors can step onto a giant musical floor and create melodies by tapping on different colored squares. As they move and dance, their footsteps produce enchanting sounds, turning the floor into a whimsical musical canvas. It’s a delightful experience that allows guests to channel their inner musician and compose their own harmonious tunes.

The exhibits within the What-If Labs play area are just a glimpse into the imaginative offerings available. With each exhibit, guests are invited to engage their senses, experiment, and let their creativity flow freely. Whether they’re making music, painting digitally, or exploring interactive floors, the What-If Labs provide an enchanting extension to the Journey into Imagination with Figment attraction, ensuring that the spirit of imagination continues to thrive and inspire long after the ride itself.

Like many Disney attractions, there is a merchandise shop as you exit.
