Nestled within the heart of Disney’s EPCOT, the Land Pavilion’s Harvest Theater is a portal to the awe-inspiring realms of our planet.
But before we dive into the breathtaking journey that Awesome Planet offers, let’s take a brief saunter down memory lane. The theater has been the stage for various shows that celebrated the Earth’s bountiful beauty and the ingenious ways humans interact with their environment. From the original Symbiosis film, which graced the screens at EPCOT’s opening, to the Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable, starring the beloved Lion King characters, each show served as a poignant reminder of our responsibility towards Mother Earth. These predecessors paved the way for Awesome Planet to inspire and enlighten the next generation of Earth’s stewards with its visually stunning narrative.
The Film
Awesome Planet is a feast for the senses and a love letter to the Earth’s incredible diversity. From the sweeping savannas of Africa to the deep, mysterious realms of the ocean, the film invites guests on an unparalleled journey across our planet’s varied landscapes.
Narrated by Ty Burrell, known for his role in Modern Family, the film combines humor with heart, making the film accessible and engaging for all ages. The narration is cleverly scripted as a realtor’s sales pitch (a la Phil Dumphy) as if the earth was a home for sale.
The state-of-the-art theater enhances the experience with in-theater effects like wind, scents, and water, immersing guests fully into the breathtaking scenes unfolding before their eyes.
Awesome Planet is not just an attraction; it’s an educational tool that marvelously balances entertainment with enlightenment. It encourages visitors to reflect on their relationship with the planet and inspires a sense of wonder and responsibility towards preserving its beauty. Whether you’re a long-time Disney aficionado or a first-time visitor, this film is a must-see, promising an enriching experience that stays with you long after you leave the theater.
It is important to note that the first half of the last 3 and a half minutes of the film presents the whole laundry list of disproven talking points regarding “climate change”as facts along with stark scary images such as a large waterfall similar to Niagara Falls drying up and a simulated ocean level rising. The tone of this portion of the movie is quite dark. If you can overlook this short portion of the movie the rest is, well Awesome.
In Closing
So, next time you’re wandering through EPCOT, make sure to stop by the Land Pavilion’s Harvest Theater. Let Awesome Planet whisk you away on a cinematic journey that celebrates the earth’s splendor and its urgent need for our care and respect. It’s an experience that beautifully ties together the past, present, and future of our relationship with the awesome planet we call home.
