Located in the Land pavilion in EPCOT is Living with the Land, a unique and educational experience that explores the wonders of sustainable living, agriculture, and environmental stewardship.
This attraction showcases innovative farming techniques and cutting-edge research in a way that is both friendly and informative, providing valuable insights into the future of our planet’s food production. Let’s delve into the fascinating world of Living with the Land at EPCOT.
The Ride
While Living with the Land is a boat ride attraction, this is not your “it’s a small world” style ride that you generally think of in Disney. The attraction lasts for about 15 minutes and starts off by teaching guests the different types of climates and sharing how humans have adapted to evolve and adapt in order to produce food. There of course is some theming to how it is also man that has damaged the Earth and how we must balance our need for food and repairing the damage.
Then the ride shifts into sharing insights on some of the ways that Disney is pushing the boundaries in their own quest for sustainable living and agriculture by sharing unique ways of growing food. Make no mistake, all of the plants in this section of the Living with the Land attraction are real! You will see different examples of hydroponics and vertical gardening, to name a few.
What makes this attraction so amazing is that this isn’t just for show. Walt Disney World harvests over 30 tons of its own produce each year to feed their guests!
The Wait
Living with the Land is a slow and relaxing attraction, which is another way of saying that is not the most popular. You can often walk onto this attraction even in the middle of the day with little to no waiting. It may not be a high flying adventure like some of EPCOT’s newer rides, but it is Disney magic the way EPCOT was intended to be and it’s real so that counts for something!
Living with the Land Fun Facts!
● If you eat at Garden Grill, you will get to see some of the scenes from the Living with the Land attraction. Garden Grill is actually a slowly rotating restaurant that overlooks the Living with the Land. Don’t worry! It’s actually moving so slowly that you can’t feel the rotation.
● Garden Grill Restaurant also receives produce from the Living with the Land attraction!
● When the attraction first opened, it was narrated by Cast Members, much like the Jungle Cruise. Now it is a relaxing audio narrator, but you can still get a full guided tour by a Cast Member when you purchase the Behind the Seeds tour. For only $35 per person, this is the most affordable Disney VIP tour available!
● The original name of this attraction was Listen to the Land, and honestly, we think it’s a better fit to drive home the sustainable living aspect of the attraction!
● There are hidden Mickeys EVERYWHERE! Our favorite is the one created by a hose in the aquarium!
Living with the Land is the embodiment of what Walt wanted for EPCOT, (minus the whole living community bit). He had a vision to combine education with entertainment that would both help the world be a better place while bringing joy. Living with the Land really hits the mark with their showcase of green friendly methods towards agriculture and hidden Mickeys to find.
