Walt Disney World is renowned for its magical experiences, and one of the most enchanting ways to traverse EPCOT and its Resort Area is aboard the Friendships.

These elegant watercraft not only offer a practical mode of transportation but also provide a scenic voyage that adds an extra layer of wonder to your Disney adventure. Whether gliding across the World Showcase Lagoon in EPCOT or cruising the serene waters of Crescent Lake, the Friendships invite you to slow down and savor the beauty of Disney from a different perspective.
The Routes
The Friendships operate in 2 separate areas, within EPCOT on the World Showcase Lagoon, and on the EPCOT Resorts Area’s Crescent Lake and its connected waterways.
EPCOT’s World Showcase
The World Showcase at EPCOT is a celebration of culture, cuisine, and entertainment from around the globe. EPCOT’s World Showcase Friendships offer two routes across the World Showcase Lagoon, allowing guests to travel effortlessly between pavilions and enjoy the cultural marvels EPCOT is celebrated for.
EPCOT Routes:
Canada – Morocco
Mexico – Germany
Whether you’re embarking from near the Mexico Pavilion to reach Germany or setting off from Canada to explore the wonders of Morocco, these routes not only shorten your walk but also offer a picturesque voyage, with stunning views of the pavilions’ architecture and landscaping. It’s a scenic shortcut that adds a touch of wonder to your world tour. The Friendships offer a delightful shortcut from one side of the World Showcase to the other.
NOTE: Upon re-opening after the 2020 closure, service is reduced to just a single route running at a time due to staffing issues.
EPCOT Resort Area’s Crescent Lake to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Linking the charm of the EPCOT Resort Area with the magic of the theme parks, another Friendship route connects Crescent Lake’s three docks with EPCOT’s International Gateway and Hollywood Studios. This tranquil cruise offers a glimpse into the themed resorts dotting the lakeshore, including the BoardWalk Inn, Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and Swan and Dolphin Resorts. It’s not just a ride; it’s an exploration of Disney’s thematic brilliance, with easy access to some of the best dining and leisure options the resort has to offer.
EPCOT Resort Area Routes:
- EPCOT International Gateway – BoardWalk Inn – Yacht Club Resort – Swan and Dolphin Resorts – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Swan and Dolphin Resorts – Yacht Club Resort – BoardWalk Resort – EPCOT International Gateway
It’s really one route which is then reversed.
The Experience

Morocco Dock
Aboard the Friendships, guests are treated to more than just a ride; they embark on a peaceful journey that stands in pleasant contrast to the bustling theme park paths. The boats themselves are spacious and designed for comfort, ensuring a pleasant voyage for all passengers. As you glide across the water, take in the panoramic views of the parks and resorts, a sight that’s especially magical at sunset, through the large side windows. The Friendships are not just transportation; they’re an experience, a floating reminder of the joys of taking the scenic route.
Practical Information
The Friendships operate daily, with service typically starting before the parks open (usually 8:30 a.m.) and continuing until 60 minutes after they close. With boats arriving approximately every 15-20 minutes at their designated docks. For first-time riders, easily identifiable signage and helpful Cast Members ensure that boarding is a breeze. These boats are designed to accommodate all guests, including those with mobility issues and strollers, making them a convenient option for everyone.
The Friendships are free floating vessels and as such can be unstable. Your Captain is in charge of boarding and exiting the vessel, once you arrive at your destination do not stand up if seated or let go of handholds if standing until told to do so by the Captain. Note: some of Disney’s docks are free floating (vs solidly mounted on pilings), if you have docked at a free floating dock and a second Friendship is about to dock, the Captain will not let you get up/exit until after the other boat docks as the dock will shift/bounce as the second Friendship docks.

FAQ: Walt Disney World’s Friendship Boats
What are the “Friendships” at Walt Disney World?
Friendships are Disney’s scenic water taxis that operate on EPCOT’s World Showcase Lagoon and around the EPCOT Resort Area (Crescent Lake), connecting EPCOT’s International Gateway, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and nearby resorts.
Where do the Friendships run inside EPCOT?
Two World Showcase routes historically operate across the lagoon: Canada ↔ Morocco and Mexico ↔ Germany.
Note: After the 2020 reopening, service had been reduced to a single route due to staffing.
Which resorts and parks does the EPCOT Resort Area route serve?
The Crescent Lake service links EPCOT International Gateway, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Yacht Club/Beach Club, Swan & Dolphin, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Boats run in both directions during the day.
How often do the Friendships run and what are the hours?
Typical frequency is about every 15–20 minutes. Service generally begins before park opening (often ~8:30 a.m.) and continues until ~60 minutes after park close. Times can vary with park hours, weather, and special events.
Are the boats accessible for wheelchairs, ECVs, and strollers?
Yes. Friendships accommodate wheelchairs, ECVs, and strollers. Follow Crew instructions for safe boarding; strollers may need to be folded if space is limited.
Are Friendships stable? Any safety tips for boarding/exiting?
They are free-floating vessels, so some motion is normal. Remain seated and hold handrails until directed by the Captain. Some docks also float; if another boat is docking, the Captain may pause unloading to avoid dock movement.
Do Friendships run during rain, wind, or fireworks?
Operations are weather-dependent and may pause in lightning or high winds. During select EPCOT nighttime shows, lagoon routes can temporarily suspend. Check posted notices or ask a Cast Member.
Is riding a Friendship faster than walking or Skyliner?
It depends. Boats are scenic and restful; walkways may be faster for short hops, and the Disney Skyliner is often quickest between EPCOT/International Gateway and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
How long does a ride take?
Expect ~10–15 minutes between adjacent Crescent Lake stops (longer end-to-end with intermediate docks). Lagoon crossings are typically a few minutes once underway.
How much does it cost and do I need a reservation?
Riding Friendships is complimentary—no reservations required. Just join the queue at the signed docks.
How-To: Make the Most of Disney’s Friendship Boats
- Pick the right dock: Inside EPCOT, use Canada/Morocco or Mexico/Germany (when both operate). In the Resort Area, choose International Gateway, BoardWalk, Yacht/Beach Club, Swan/Dolphin, or Hollywood Studios.
- Check current conditions: Verify today’s route status, frequency, weather holds, and any show-related pauses.
- Queue & follow crew directions: Keep strollers/devices ready; fold if asked. Wait for the Captain’s cue to stand and exit.
- Plan smart connections: For speed, consider walking or Skyliner between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. For comfort, enjoy the Friendship cruise.
- Mind showtimes: Around EPCOT nighttime spectaculars, lagoon service may pause—cross earlier or route via land/Skyliner.
