Many US Military Bases have a Ticket and Travel Office where you can purchase both Walt Disney World and Disneyland tickets.

These ticket offices often sell both the Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets and Regular Military Discounted Disney Tickets, which are entirely different products/promotions.

Base Ticket Office prices for the Regular Military Discount Tickets are usually very comparable to those at the Shades of Green Ticket Office.

Here’s a post on why prices vary.

There can be both advantages and disadvantages with buying your tickets on base prior to your departure.

Your Base Information Travel and Ticket Office

The advantages are:

  • In order to make Theme Park Reservations you’ll need your tickets in hand well prior to your arrival date.
  • By buying your tickets ahead of time, you can spread out the cost of your vacation by paying for tickets ahead. Or if using Regular Military Discounted Magic Your Way tickets you can buy your tickets prior to an anticipated ticket price increase.

The disadvantages are:

  • Many Base Ticket Offices carry only a limited selection of tickets i.e. type or number of days. But they can most likely order what you need (it may take a week or two to do so).
  • Plan on stopping by the ticket office at least 2 to 3 weeks before you’d like to have the tickets in hand in case they need to order them!
  • If you don’t have enough time for them to order your tickets, you’ll have to buy them once you arrive at Disney. Disney Armed Forces Salute can be purchased there from Disney or Shades of Green. Regular Military Discounted Magic Disney tickets can only be purchased from Shades of Green. Walt Disney World will add sales tax.

Hi! My family is from Illinois and we are planning a family vacation the end of June 2021 to Walt Disney World. My son is active military reserve and we are trying to find out where the closest military base is that sells discounted Disney park tickets.

With Disney’s new advanced park reservation due to COVID, we need to be able to purchase tickets and have them mailed prior to our trip , if there isn’t a base close to us that sells Disney tickets.

Please let us know where to call or email. Thank you

      Hi Ronda,

There are hundreds of ticket offices. Keeping up with what’s where and what types of tickets that they sell is well beyond the scope of this part time endeavor.

But, they are many bases that sell long distance, including Shades of Green at Disney World.

Hi! My husband and I are planning a trip this early October to Disneyland and want to buy tickets at the base but he’s only a reservist. Would he still qualify for the salute discount? and also how do we find out about blockout dates?

    Thank you so much!

      Hi Nicole,

Yes he’s absolutely eligible. I was a reservist most of my career.

October you are in the clear, see our Blockout Dates Page: https://www.militarydisneytips.com/blog/disneys-armed-forces-salute-blockout-dates/

    Hi,

Shades of Green just told me I can only buy tickets in January or September and only in person. Are there other alternatives?

      Hi Carli,

So you’ve given no info on your military status, but from what you said Shades of Green told you I assume you are separated, not retired from the military and are not service connected disabled (any percent), a purple heart recipient, or a former prisoner of war.

If that is your status, then yes, you can use their ticket office in the months of September and January. They often qualify this and say that you must be staying there to do so.

Unfortunately there are no alternatives if you do not qualify for the John McCain 2018 Disabled Veteran Equal Access Act (the statuses I mentioned above).

Do you know if Florida resident annual passes can be purchased on base (to save tax) and still be able to use the monthly payment plan? Or perhaps at shades of green? I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere online. Thank you.

      Hi MJ,

There is no military discount on passes. Shades of Green used to sell them at a discount, but it was not a military one offered through Disney. They bought them in bulk from a local ticket reseller and passed on the savings. They no longer do this though.

      Hi Amy,

As a service connected vet he is eligible for ticket purchases from Base ticket Offices via the John McCain Bill. (except the 2 highly discounted ones for WDW and Universal that require a current mil ID)

I am so confused about buying salute tickets when you need reservations to the park now. We are planning to go first week of October 2023. I know I’m early but anxiety makes me plan. My husband is active duty army but we aren’t on a base. Do I call the ticket office to purchase and then make reservations after I go in person or have them mailed? How far in advance should I get the tickets since reservations fill up? Thank you!! Truly enjoy your page. It has helped so much.

      Hi Cassie,

      Thanks so much!

So, first, you need tickets in hand in order to make park reservations.

I certainly hope that by a little over a year from now Disney will have solved their manning shortages which they say are driving the need for park reservations and this may all be water under the bridge.

You can look at this October to see how it looks about a month out for availability. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/availability-calendar/?segments=tickets,resort,passholder&defaultSegment=tickets

A month or so back it was probably all green.

The milestones for your trip would be:

-Disney announces a 2023 Disney Armed Forces Salute (late Sept – Late Nov 2022?)
-You buy tickets sometime after they become available (early Nov or later based on announcement date)(timing also based on your comfort level for schedule changes that would prevent you from going and being unable to use the tickets)
      -Link Tickets
      -Make Park Res

Any time in the first half of 2023 (or even later) and you should be just fine.
