Shades of Green is now mostly cashless, so here’s what military guests need to know before they arrive.
If you’re planning a stay at Shades of Green this year, there’s an important change you’ll want to be aware of before you arrive.
Shades of Green has officially transitioned to mostly cashless transactions across the resort—and the list of cashless locations continues to grow.
This isn’t just a minor shift. It affects how you’ll pay for dining, charges during your stay, ticket purchases, and even how you settle your room bill.
Let’s break down exactly what’s changed, what’s changing next, and what military families should do before arriving.
Planning a Disney Vacation?
Military Disney discounts can save families a significant amount of money, but figuring out eligibility, tickets, resorts, transportation, and Lightning Lane strategies can get confusing quickly. These guides are a great place to start.

What Is Now Cashless?
The transition has happened in phases, and most of your day-to-day spending at Shades of Green is now cashless.
Front Desk (As of April 15, 2026)
You can no longer use cash at the Front Desk.
That includes:
- Room charges and final folio payments
- Incidentals and account adjustments
- Any other front desk transactions
The good news for military families is that the Military Star Card is accepted, along with standard credit and debit cards.
All Restaurants (Since November 2025)
Every Shades of Green-operated dining location is now cashless.
This includes:
If you’re used to paying cash for a quick breakfast, coffee, or a drink at Evergreens, that’s no longer an option.
Note that Chip and Dale’s Deli, located right by the Magnolia Pool, is a Disney-owned restaurant and still accepts cash!
AAFES Exchange (As of April 30, 2026)
The Exchange at Shades of Green is now cashless as of April 30, 2026.
This is an important update because the Exchange had previously continued to accept cash even after the resort restaurants and Front Desk transitioned. That has now changed.
If your kids are bringing cash for souvenirs, snacks, or small vacation purchases, you’ll want to plan ahead. Purchases at the Exchange now require a debit card, credit card, or other accepted electronic payment.
This also means guests should not count on using the Exchange to break larger bills for tips.
Shades of Green has noted that the Exchange is a separate entity, so specific questions about Exchange operations should be directed to Exchange management at Shades of Green. Why the Hotel PoCs can’t walk down the hall to the Exchange and ask for you is a mystery to me. Not very customer-friendly!
What Is Going Cashless Next?
Attraction Tickets: Going Cashless May 15, 2026
The Shades of Green Attraction Ticket Office is scheduled to go cashless beginning May 15, 2026.
This is a big one for military families because the Ticket Office is where many guests purchase discounted Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, and other Orlando-area attraction tickets.
If you are buying tickets at Shades of Green, be prepared to use a card or other accepted electronic payment method.
What Has Not Been Announced Yet?
Magnolia Spa
There has been no official announcement yet that Magnolia Spa has gone cashless.
That could change later, but as of this update, the confirmed locations are the Front Desk, restaurants, Exchange, and soon the Attraction Ticket Office.
Tipping Can Still Be Done in Cash
You can still tip in cash.
This includes:
- Restaurant servers and bartenders
- Housekeeping
- Bell Services
- Other service staff
That’s an important piece, especially for guests who prefer to bring cash specifically for gratuities.
Plan Ahead for Small Bills
The biggest practical issue now is not just paying for purchases. It’s getting smaller bills once you are already at the resort.
With the Front Desk and Exchange now cashless, guests should not count on being able to break larger bills at either location for tips.
There is an ATM on site if cash is needed, but if you prefer to tip in cash, the easiest solution is to bring smaller bills with you before you arrive.
Pro Tip: I always figure out how much cash and how many of each denomination bill I will need and get that prior to departing on my Disney trip. You might need cash for:
- Airport Luggage Service
- Limo or Bus Driver Tips each way
- Bellhop Tips: to the room, from the room, and out of storage on each end if you use that service
- Housekeeping Tips
- Valet Parking
- And more if you want to tip servers or Uber/Lyft/Minnie Van Drivers in cash
What This Means for Your Trip
For most guests, this won’t be a major disruption—but it does require a little planning.
The biggest adjustment isn’t just that things are cashless. It’s that you can no longer rely on the Front Desk or Exchange to help you manage cash during your stay.
If you typically:
- Break larger bills at the Front Desk or Exchange
- Give kids cash for souvenir spending
- Use cash for daily spending
- Budget with physical cash
- Buy attraction tickets with cash
You’ll want to adjust your approach.
A few practical tips:
- Bring a credit or debit card you plan to use regularly
- Consider using the Military Star Card for Front Desk charges
- Bring small bills in advance if you plan to tip
- Use your banking app to track spending instead of cash
- Have a card ready if purchasing attraction tickets at Shades of Green after May 15, 2026
- Consider prepaid cards or a controlled-spending card option for kids instead of cash
Bottom Line
Shades of Green is now very close to being a fully cashless resort experience.
With the Front Desk, restaurants, and Exchange now cashless—and the Attraction Ticket Office scheduled to follow on May 15, 2026—most of your spending during a stay will require a card-based payment.
The biggest takeaway: Bring the right payment methods and plan your cash tips before you arrive.
Do that, and this change will be a minor adjustment—not a trip disruption.
