Shades of Green Resort at Walt Disney World
Nestled between the Palm, Magnolia, and Oak Trail Golf Courses is the - Shades of Green Resort, an Armed Forces Recreation Center located on Walt Disney World property.
The Shades of Green Resort was originally owned and operated by the Walt Disney World Company under various names. Since 1994 it has been operated as an Armed Forces Recreation Center, open only to a very special clientele. Shades of Green is dedicated to serving the men and women of the U.S. Armed Services community, their families, other eligible Department of Defense employees, and those they sponsor at Shades of Green.
The Shades of Green Resort is a wonderfully spacious hotel. Remodeled and expanded in 2004 it has 586 of the largest standard resort rooms on Walt Disney World property, including eleven family suites. You'll also find Shades of Green has very reasonable room rates compared with many Disney World Resorts and other hotels in the local area. Rates are based upon rank/pay grade. Shades of Green is a smoke free resort.
Shades of Green has two lovely heated pools, one in the shape of Mickey Mouse's head and ears! There's a sports bar and grill and kiddy pool too, there are two full-service restaurants, and several quick service options available for dining.
Shades of Green Resort offers military discounted park tickets for all Disney World venues, Universal Studios Orlando, Sea World, and many other area attractions in it's Attraction Ticket Sales Office.
Shades of Green offers free bus transportation to various locations on Disney World property. You can leave your car in their parking garage so you won't have to drive to the Theme Parks! Also Disney's Polynesian resort and it's Monorail station is just a short walk from Shades of Green.
Shades of Green often fills up to capacity, in the event this happens you can be placed on their waiting list or they can offer you an Overflow Rate at selected Walt Disney World Resorts! While Shades of Green has the most spacious rooms at Walt Disney World they are not themed in Disney fashion as are the Disney resorts. Obtaining an overflow rate can get you some of the best rooms on property at a great discount, or a very good rate on a Disney Value Resort.
Shades is considered a Disney Property hotel which entitles you to the benefit of Disney's Extra Magic Hour, package delivery to your room, and Shades of Green guests pay $14 per day to park at Disney theme parks. Here are some options to paying for parking.
The Shades of Green Resort can be the single most money saving benefit available for military members for their Walt Disney World vacation. We've enjoyed each stay at SoG and all of the cost cutting we've been able to do through them with overflow rates and discounted tickets through the years!
