Disney’s new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass have replaced Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane Purchases!!!
This is at both Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort.
Disney has also announced the Disney Lightning Premier Pass, a costly, all-inclusive version. See my post on this new offering: Disney Lightning Premier Pass Pilot Program.
Disney’s new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass will be implemented differently at Walt Disney World and at the Disneyland Resort.
Disney’s new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass will replace Disney’s current paid Genie+ services and at Walt Disney World adding in some of the features of the old FastPass+ system. The complimentary features of Disney Genie service will continue to be available in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps. At the Disneyland Resort, the system will remain exactly the same and only the names will change.
At Disney World, the biggest changes are for the Multi Pass which replaces Genie+, while the Single Pass which replaces Individual Lightning Lane Purchases is essentially the same.
At Disneyland Genie+ will now be called Multi Pass and Individual Lightning Lane Purchases will be called Single Pass.
Pricing for Lightning Lane Passes (Single or Multi) varies by date and theme park or attraction, and purchase is subject to limited availability. Prices will be displayed in the Disney theme park apps.
Here’s how Lightning Lane passes will work beginning July 24 2024.
At Walt Disney World
The changes will allow you to:
- Make Lightning Lane plans before your trip, for added confidence
- Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, so that you know what you’re getting
- Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
When you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you may make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a theme park, in advance of your visit. You’ll be able to choose available times as you make your selections. You must make all 3 advance selections in the same theme park.
On the day of your park visit, once you redeem a Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection (or once the arrival window has passed), you can use the My Disney Experience app to check availability for another Lightning Lane Multi Pass experience—and add to your plans.
You can then make one at a time until regular park closing (subject to availability). You will have 3 passes at a time continuously. One you use one you may make another.
If your park admission includes Park Hopper benefits, you can even choose a Lightning Lane Multi Pass experience in a different theme park after using the first one of the day.
Multi Pass prices vary for each product vary by both park and day.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
With Lightning Lane Single Pass you can secure a time to ride one of the most highly demanded attractions, but you’ll now be able to make your purchase and plan in advance.
General
Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel and other select hotels will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance, for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance.
These advance purchase windows will let guests secure some of their must-do rides and experiences after they’ve had some time to decide what dining reservations they want to book and any other plans they may need to consider.
Guests may purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass or both. The app will also be updated to make it quicker and easier to purchase and plan, with fewer steps and a new option to purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass in one transaction.
Single Pass prices vary by attraction and day.
When to Purchase
Here’s when you can purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass and/or Lightning Lane Single Pass—and choose experiences and arrival windows:
7 Days in Advance for Eligible Resort Hotel Guests – When staying at Disney Resort hotels or other select hotels, Guests can purchase Lightning Lane passes—and choose experiences and arrival windows—starting 7 days before the first day of their Resort stay, for their length of stay (up to 14 days).
This early-planning benefit is available to registered Guests staying at:
3 Days in Advance for All Other Guests – When not staying at a Disney Resort hotel or other select hotels, guests can purchase Lightning Lane passes—and choose experiences and arrival windows—3 days in advance. See additional details below, which vary based on admission type:
- Guests with date-based theme park tickets (which require the Guest to choose a start date at the time of purchase) can purchase 3 days before the first day of their ticket, for the total number of valid admission days on their ticket.
- Guests with other ticket types can purchase 3 days before their park visit. This includes all Military Ticket Types!
- Annual Passholders can purchase 3 days before their park visit.
The purchase window opens at 7 a.m. eastern.
How to Purchase
Important Note for Military Tickets – Both types of Disney World Military Tickets (Salute & Regular) are what Disney calls Non-Date Based Tickets, meaning that once purchased they can be used on any day prior to their expiration date (excluding any Blockout Dates). in comparison, general public date based tickets are purchased for a specific set of dates. Non-Date Based tickets still require Theme Park Reservations to enter a park (though there is a rumor the not for much longer). In order to make Lightning Lane Reservations you need to have made Theme Park Reservations.

What Military Tickets Can Lightning Lane Passes Be Used With and Added To?
Single Pass can be used with all military tickets, both Disney Armed Forces Salute and Regular Disney Military Ticket Discount for Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
When talking about adding this option to tickets I’m talking about doing so at the time of purchase or at a ticket window, not the in app purchase which can be done with all military ticket types.
At Disneyland, you can but both types of military tickets with the Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
Do You Need Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass Every Day?
Public Service Announcement: You might not need them every day!
With the Single Pass, you buy them each day for the attractions that you want. That in itself might reduce the number that you buy. I do buy them often!
For the Multi Pass you should carefully analyze your desired attractions and spend some time watching return times in real time on the My Disney Experience app to see if you will want to purchase Genie+ for your whole ticket at Disneyland or for every day at Disney World . or if it makes more sense to purchase it only for the days you think you will need it via the app on the day in question.
I have never used it every day of my trip! On my last trip I only purchased it on 2 of our 4 theme park days.
The reason that you might not need Multi Pass every day of your trip is that in some parks Multi Pass saves you little time due the attractions normally having fairly short wait times as it is (except on the most crowded days of the year).
Be sure to make the Free Early Entry and/or Extended Evening Hours a part of your plans to experience the attractions that you’d like to!
Multi Pass recommendations by park:
- The Magic Kingdom – Multi Pass Top Recommended Park
- 1 Multi Pass Attractions
- Thrill Rides and Many very popular kid’s rides
- Can be a big time saver here
- EPCOT – Multi Pass Not Recommended
- Only 10 Multi Pass Attractions
- Minimal Thrill Rides
- Many have moderate to low wait times
- Hollywood Studios – Multi Pass Second Recommended Park
- 13 Multi Pass Attractions
- Many Thrill Rides
- Can be a big time saver here
- Animal Kingdom-Multi Pass Not Recommended
- 9 Multi Pass Attractions
- Only a couple with long waits on moderate days
These recommendations assume that you will stay in the same park all day. Should you desire to Park Hop, purchasing Multi Pass might be warranted if you are hopping from a not recommended park to one where it is recommended. Keep in mind that you’ll be using your Lightning lane reservations in the second park later in the day and many of the best attractions will already be fully reserved. Slinky Dog fills up reservations by 8 or 9 a.m.!
Important Details About Lightning Lane Passes

FAQ: Lightning Lane Multi Pass & Lightning Lane Single Pass
What changed—did these replace Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane?
Yes. Lightning Lane Multi Pass replaces Genie+ and Lightning Lane Single Pass replaces Individual Lightning Lane at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Free Disney Genie features remain in the apps.
Do Multi Pass and Single Pass work the same at Walt Disney World and Disneyland?
No. At Walt Disney World, Multi Pass adds FastPass+-style pre-planning (pick experiences and times in advance). At Disneyland, functionality is essentially the same as Genie+—Disney mainly changed the names.
How does Lightning Lane Multi Pass work at Walt Disney World?
Purchase Multi Pass and pre-select up to 3 Lightning Lane experiences in one park with chosen times. Day-of, after you redeem one (or its window expires), you can book another (one at a time) through park close. With Park Hopper, after your first redemption you can choose in a different park (subject to availability).
How does Lightning Lane Single Pass work at Walt Disney World?
Secure a time for a top-demand attraction. You can plan in advance and buy up to two Single Pass attractions per day (subject to availability).
What are the advance booking windows at Walt Disney World?
7 days in advance for Guests at Disney Resort hotels, Shades of Green, and Swan/Dolphin/Swan Reserve—for the entire length of stay (up to 14 days), starting 7:00 AM ET.
3 days in advance for all other Guests (including all military ticket types), starting 7:00 AM ET.
Do military tickets need Theme Park Reservations to use Lightning Lane at WDW?
Yes. Military tickets are non–date-based, so you must have a valid Theme Park Reservation to make Lightning Lane plans (per this page).
How does Multi Pass work at Disneyland?
Like Genie+: make one Lightning Lane selection at a time for the next available return window throughout the day.
How does Single Pass work at Disneyland?
Purchase and schedule return times for up to two high-demand attractions per Guest, per day—either day-of in the app or as a length-of-ticket add-on with many tickets/packages (availability limited).
When can I purchase at Disneyland?
Multi Pass: Day-of, after you enter your first park.
Single Pass: Day-of in-app or as a length-of-ticket add-on (for most tickets/packages).
How do prices work?
Prices for both Multi and Single vary by date, park, and/or attraction and are subject to limited availability. The current price displays in each park’s app at purchase.
How do I buy and manage plans in the apps?
Update the app, connect your Family & Friends, then tap Lightning Lane Passes on the home screen. Select your date/park, choose Multi, Single, or both, pick times (where applicable), and complete purchase. You can modify park/date, experiences, and times before each window begins (subject to availability). Limit one Lightning Lane entry per attraction per day.
Which attractions are included?
WDW lists tiered Multi Pass groups per park and Single Pass headliners (e.g., Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Avatar Flight of Passage). Disneyland lists a broad Multi Pass lineup (e.g., Indiana Jones Adventure, Matterhorn, WEB SLINGERS) and Single Pass for Rise and Radiator Springs Racers. See the full lists on this page.
Which military tickets can use Lightning Lane?
Single Pass works with all military ticket types (WDW & DLR). At Disneyland, you can also buy both Armed Forces Salute and Regular Military Discount tickets with Multi Pass as an add-on, or purchase day-of in-app.
Do I need Multi/Single every day?
Not necessarily. Your guidance: Magic Kingdom = top recommended; Hollywood Studios = second recommended; EPCOT and Animal Kingdom often not recommended (except peak days). Consider a targeted approach and leverage Early Entry and (where eligible) Extended Evening Hours.
Any other fine print?
Lightning Lane passes are nonrefundable, nontransferable, limited, not guaranteed; experiences may change/close; entitlements/prices/terms can change without notice.
How-To: Plan & Use Lightning Lane (Military-Smart Guide)
- Confirm what you need. Check your park days and which attractions truly warrant Lightning Lane. Don’t overbuy—focus on your busiest parks and peak dates.
- Hold what’s required. WDW military tickets (non–date-based) need a Theme Park Reservation to make Lightning Lane plans. Ensure valid admission is linked.
- Know your WDW windows. 7 days at 7:00 AM ET for Disney resorts, Shades of Green, and Swan/Dolphin/Swan Reserve (for length of stay, up to 14 days). 3 days at 7:00 AM ET for everyone else (incl. all military tickets).
- Buy in the app. In My Disney Experience (WDW) or the Disneyland app (DLR), tap Lightning Lane Passes → choose Multi, Single, or both → select times/experiences (where applicable) → purchase.
- Work the WDW rolling system. With Multi Pass, pre-book up to 3 in a single park; after redeeming one, add another (one at a time) all day. With Single Pass, hold up to two headliners/day.
- Use the DLR day-of flow. Multi Pass: buy after entering your first park; select next-available times, one at a time. Single Pass: buy day-of in app or as a length-of-ticket add-on (where eligible).
- Modify smartly. Before each window starts, adjust park/date, attraction, or time (subject to availability). Remember: one Lightning Lane entry per attraction per day.

I’ve got a tip for you Steve: Civil Service Retirees ARE ENTITLED TO THE SAME DISCOUNTS AND BENEFITS AS MILITARY RETIREES., ACCORDING TO FEDERAL MANDATES IN OUR EMPLOYEE BENEFITS PACKAGES, THAT MAKE IT SO…. This includes AFS tickets as well as any other benefits, specials or discounts that are being offered. This has been true since I became a CSE back in 1977!
Without our support, the Military wouldn’t be able to do their complete jobs and/or protect the USA! It spells out in my contract specifically that I’m to have the same benefits etc
Hi J,
Sorry, but the DoW negotiates a contract with Disney for the Disney Armed Forces Salute, and eligibility is set via the contract. And civilians are definitely not included. (I’m a retired DoD civ).
Civilians are however elegible for the Regular Disney Military tickets,
