Disney Lightning Lane Premier Pass

22 November 2024 by Steve Bell 4 Comments

Disney has announced its new Premier Pass at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

What is Premier Pass

Lightning Lane Premier Pass is an outrageously expensive, paid line-skipping program, that is essentially the same as Universal Orlando’s Express Pass Standard.

Premier Pass Price

Walt Disney World prices for Lightning Lane Premier Passes vary by date and theme park. At launch, prices will range from $129 to $449 (per pass, plus tax), with the highest prices falling on a limited number of days over peak travel periods. That’s $550 to $1913 per day for a family of 4! (with 6.5% sales tax added)

Disneyland Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be priced at $400 per person, per day for park visits through December 31, 2024. Beginning in 2025, pricing will vary by date and demand within a $300 to $400 range. That’s $1287 to $1716 per day for a family of 4! (with 7.25% sales tax added)

Prices will be displayed in the respective Disney Park app when you go to purchase.

Here is the By Park breakdown:

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom: $129 to $199 per person, plus tax
  • EPCOT: $169 to $249 per person, plus tax
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $269 to $349 per person, plus tax
  • Magic Kingdom: $329 to $449 per person, plus tax

In comparison, Universal’s Standard Express Pass, which offers the same benefit of one entry per attraction at any time of the day, starts at $89.99 per person plus tax and goes up to $290 plus tax. Universal’s Unlimited Express Pass, which offers unlimited entries per attraction at any time of the day, ranges from $120 to $320 or comes “free” when staying at one of their Premier Hotels.

Let’s take a quick look at what Disney’s Premier Pass would cost if you used them on every day of your trip using their low and high price numbers.

Again for a family of 4 using the 3 or 4-Day Disney Armed Forces Salute Tickets at Disneyland and the 4, 5, and 6-day versions at Walt Disney World:

Disneyland:

  • 3-Day Ticket – $3861 to $5148
  • 4-Day Ticket – $5148 to $6864

Walt Disney World:

  • 4-Day Ticket – $2198 to $7651
  • 5-Day Ticket – $2748 to $9563
  • 6-Day Ticket – $3297 to $11476

That’s on top of the regular military discounted ticket prices for a family of 4 of $1076 or $1380 at Disneyland or $1476, $1556, or $1636 at Disney World.

For most people willing to shell out this kind of cash, it will probably be a splurge on one day of their trip! And, while at a very high price, it at times comes out way cheaper than the cost of one of the 7-hour private tours, which include instant attraction boarding among other things, at either resort destination! Disneyland private 7-hour tour $3754-$5255, Disney World private 7-hour tour $3355-$6709.

How to Purchase Premier Pass

Walt Disney World eligible Guests can purchase Lightning Lane Premier Passes up to 7 days before the first day of their Resort stay—for their entire length of stay (up to 14 days)—starting at 7:00 AM Eastern Time.

FAQ: Disney’s Lightning Lane Premier Pass (WDW & Disneyland)

What is Lightning Lane Premier Pass?
Disney’s top-tier paid line-skipping program. It’s similar to Universal Orlando’s Express Pass Standard but pricier—and more convenient than Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass—because you get one entry at every Lightning Lane location, any time that day with no return-time reservations.

When did Premier Pass launch?
Walt Disney World: October 30, 2024
Disneyland Resort: October 23, 2024

Who can buy it?
WDW (eligible hotels only): Disney Deluxe Resorts (Animal Kingdom Lodge, Beach Club, BoardWalk Inn, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Polynesian Village, Wilderness Lodge, Yacht Club); Disney Deluxe Villas/DVC (Bay Lake Tower, Boulder Ridge, Copper Creek, Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo/Kidani, Beach Club Villas, BoardWalk Villas, Old Key West, Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, Saratoga Springs, Riviera, Villas at Grand Floridian, plus DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness only); Shades of Green; Swan, Swan Reserve, Dolphin.
Disneyland: Purchase in the app (very limited availability).

How much does it cost?
WDW (per person + tax; varies by park/date):
• Disney’s Animal Kingdom: $129–$199
• EPCOT: $169–$249
• Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $269–$349
• Magic Kingdom: $329–$449
Overall launch range: $129–$449 (per pass + tax).
Disneyland: Through Dec 31, 2024: $400 pp/day; in 2025: $300–$400 (date/demand-based). Prices display in the app at purchase.

How does it compare to Universal Express?
Universal’s Express Pass (one entry/attraction, any time) runs about $89.99–$290 + tax; Express Unlimited is $120–$320 or included with Premier Hotels. Disney’s Premier Pass is generally more expensive.

How much would it cost for my whole trip?
Example totals for a family of 4 using Armed Forces Salute tickets:
Disneyland: 3-Day $3,861–$5,148; 4-Day $5,148–$6,864 (7.25% tax reflected).
WDW: 4-Day $2,198–$7,651; 5-Day $2,748–$9,563; 6-Day $3,297–$11,476 (6.5% tax). These are in addition to your ticket costs, so many families treat Premier Pass as a one-day splurge.

How do I purchase—and when?
WDW: Eligible resort guests can purchase in the My Disney Experience app up to 7 days before the first day of their stay, for the entire length of stay (up to 14 days), starting 7:00 AM ET.
Disneyland: Purchase in the Disneyland app up to 2 days in advance, starting 7:00 AM PT (very limited availability). In the app, find Lightning Lane Premier Pass → Purchase and follow prompts.

How do I use Premier Pass in the parks?
Go to a Lightning Lane entrance and tap in with your MagicBand/MagicBand+, Disney MagicMobile, Key to the World card, or ticket card linked to valid admission. You’ll skip standby and enter a shorter line. You can redeem one time per included attraction that day—at any time.

How do I track what I’ve used?
Open the app → Today’s Plans → My Day → view your Premier Pass redemptions (what’s remaining and what’s already used).

Which attractions are included?
A very large lineup at both resorts (e.g., TRON Lightcycle / Run, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Rise of the Resistance, Radiator Springs Racers, WEB SLINGERS, Incredicoaster, and more). See the Premier Pass Attractions sections above for the full list.

Are there photo perks?
Yes—digital downloads of select attraction photos/videos from that day via Disney PhotoPass, plus PhotoPass Lenses (AR effects).

Is Premier Pass better than Lightning Lane Multi/Single?
It’s far simpler and faster (no return times; one-time access to every Lightning Lane location) but much pricier. For many, a one-day splurge on the busiest park/day delivers the best value.

How-To: Buy & Use Lightning Lane Premier Pass (Quick Guide)

  1. Confirm eligibility & availability. WDW: Must be at an eligible hotel (Deluxe/Deluxe Villa, Shades of Green, Swan/Dolphin/Reserve). DLR: Purchase in-app (very limited).
  2. Know your purchase window. WDW: Up to 7 days before your stay for up to 14 days, starting 7:00 AM ET. DLR: Up to 2 days before, starting 7:00 AM PT.
  3. Buy in the app. Open My Disney Experience (WDW) or the Disneyland app → Lightning Lane Premier Pass → Purchase. Prices show by park/date (WDW) or by date (DLR).
  4. Link & tap. Ensure your tickets are linked. At each attraction’s Lightning Lane, tap with your band/card/mobile pass to redeem your one-time access.
  5. Track as you go. Check Today’s Plans → My Day to see what you’ve redeemed and what’s left.
  6. Pick your splurge day(s). Consider buying for one peak/crowded day (or the most ride-dense park) to maximize value versus every day of your trip.

We just came back from a Trip in August. We used LL ONLY at MK. It is NOT needed at all at Epcot.. We found the wait times at AK to be greatly exaggerated. 110 minutes listed at Avatar turned into 50 minutes total. The rest were almost walk on all day. For HS we just went early (not rope drop but before 11) and got their big three out of the way. Longest wait was 40 minutes! We are on vacation, why do I need to finish the park in 30 minutes? Why the heck would I pay thousands for this?

I certainly won’t pay it at universal. We stayed at their version of the Poly on military rates and got three days of passes for free. So paying $800 for two nights in the hotel got our family of 4 three full days of passes. At the time, those same passes would have been $2700. We used our ‘savings’ to spend a WEEK at Shades with tickets!

      Hi Michele,

That is a great way to look at it!

Insanity. No way would we pay for this! I don’t have much to say beyond that lol.

Except, I’m wondering….since staying at the rack or discounted rates at a Deluxe resort is still pretty expensive. IF this succeeds, I wonder if it will increase the number of 1-night stays at Deluxes to get access to MK and/or DHS passes?
